URBANA, Ill. – The University of Illinois Police Department on Monday released its 2019 Year In Review, which details some of the biggest trends, initiatives, public safety issues and other items of interest throughout the previous school year.

The report also includes statistics for the previous school year and information on how Illinois compares to similar institutions with regard to crime on campus.

The 2018-2019 school year brought a new dual-trained K-9 unit to protect campus, a new opportunity for our officers to work with the FBI to prevent violence as part of its Eastern Illinois Safe Streets Task Force and new community outreach initiatives like the Community Police Academy and Youth Leadership Camp.

Executive Director of Public Safety and Chief of Police Craig Stone praised the work of the sworn and non-sworn Public Safety staff members and credited their passionate efforts with the division’s success.

“We continue to have success in protecting our students, faculty and staff and maintaining a secure environment where education, research and public service can flourish,” Stone said. “Our policies, training regimens and philosophies will continue to evolve with changing conditions, and we look forward to revamping our practices to make sure we serve our communities in the best way we can. Preventing and deterring crime has been and will be our number one priority.”
