The Division of Public Safety strives for transparency, and we want to help you get the information you need.

As a public institution, the Division of Public Safety is subject to the Illinois Freedom of Information Act (FOIA).

The Illinois Attorney General office website provides details about the act, including resources for the public and sample request letters you can use. You may also click the button below to access the FOIA portal to submit a request.

Case updates

If you are seeking information or an update related to a report you filed, but you don’t need the document itself, please call 217-333-1216 and you will be directed to the officer working on your case.

Law enforcement and other qualifying agencies

If you are an employee of a qualifying agency*, please use the form on the contact page to request case records. You must provide a fax number to receive any case-related documents.

*Qualifying agencies: Law enforcement, Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS), State’s Attorney employees, corrections officials, and probation/parole officers.
