URBANA, Illinois – An Urbana man was arrested Wednesday for possession of child sexual abuse material.

University of Illinois Police Department (UIPD) detectives arrested Haocheng “Charlie” Wang, 23, of Urbana, on Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2026, for possessing child sexual abuse material (CSAM).

University Police detectives assigned to the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force received a CyberTip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children on Dec. 1, 2025, regarding a Discord user allegedly possessing CSAM.

After nearly two months of investigation, UIPD detectives and Champaign County Street Crimes Task Force investigators executed a search warrant at Wang’s residence on Wednesday, resulting in his arrest.

Wang was arraigned Thursday afternoon and released pending trial.

Due to the nature of the offense, no further details regarding the investigation will be released.

Anyone with information regarding child sexual abuse material or child sexual abuse, enticement, or trafficking is encouraged to report it to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children CyberTipline. If you believe a child is in immediate danger, call 911.

Please note, those arrested are presumed innocent until proven guilty, and formal charges may change as cases are adjudicated.
