At 3:10 p.m. Thursday near Sixth and Daniel streets, Champaign, U. of I. student Chenyi Tang, 18, of Champaign, was issued a state of Illinois notice to appear in court for cruel treatment of an animal. A maintenance employee doing routine work in Tang’s apartment called animal control after finding a cat confined in unsafe conditions. The animal control officer brought the cat to a veterinary clinic.
Someone broke into two vehicles overnight Wednesday or Thursday while they were parked in U. of I. parking lot E-38, 1214 S. First St., Champaign. A passerby called police after seeing one vehicle with a shattered window. Inside the vehicle, police found pieces of concrete believed to have been used to break the window. An officer noticed the second car parked nearby with similar damage. The steering column on the first vehicle had been tampered with. Nothing was reported stolen. The estimated repair cost is $800 per vehicle.
At 4:29 a.m. Wednesday, an employee of Evergreen Tobacco, 306 E. Green St., Champaign, reported that two people threw a brick at the business’s glass door multiple times. The glass was still in place but cracked in several places. The estimated repair cost is $1,200.
