At 2:26 p.m. Wednesday, it was reported that someone had fraudulently cashed a check from the account of a church at 604 E. Chalmers St., Champaign. On Oct. 8, a church staff member wrote a check for $1,221 to pay a utility bill and placed the envelope in a U.S. Postal Service mailbox. Sometime between the Oct. 8 mailing and Wednesday, another person had stolen the check, altered the details and cashed it for $9,221.
A U. of I. student reported that credit cards had been stolen from his wallet between 1-2:50 p.m. Tuesday at Krannert Center for the Performing Arts, 500 S. Goodwin Ave., Urbana. The student placed his wallet in a jacket and left the jacket at the back of an auditorium during class. At the end of class, the cards were missing.
A U. of I. student reported that her cellphone had been stolen around 8:50 p.m. Friday at the Activities and Recreation Center, 201 E. Peabody Drive, Champaign. The $550 phone was in a locker while the student showered. No information was provided on whether the locker was locked.
