At 11:25 p.m. Monday in the 1900 block of South Orchard Street, Urbana, Christopher S. Pope, 34, no address provided, was issued a state of Illinois notice to appear in court for possession of methamphetamine. Police initially were called by a resident who reported seeing Pope attempting to enter the resident’s vehicle.
A U. of I. student reported Monday that three packages delivered to the mail room of her apartment building in the 300 block of East Chalmers Street, Champaign, were tampered with or stolen. Two packages were stolen in their entirety. One was initially taken but later returned to the mail room after the offender opened it and removed several items. The total value of the stolen items is $160.
A U. of I. student reported that his electric bicycle had been stolen between 1-6 p.m. Monday outside the Campus Instructional Facility, 1405 W. Springfield Ave., Urbana. The bicycle, which has an estimated value of $420, was locked to a rack.*
It was reported that someone broke into a vehicle and stole multiple items between 6:20-9:30 p.m. Saturday while the vehicle was parked in a garage under an apartment building in the 1000 block of South Locust Street, Champaign. The stolen items, which included gym equipment and electronics, have a total estimated value of $1,421. It was reported that the vehicle was unlocked.
Raydell D. Jones, 26, of Champaign, was arrested at 5:55 p.m. Monday near Fifth and Green streets, Champaign, on a Champaign County warrant for failure to appear in court. Jones’ vehicle initially was stopped for an expired registration sticker.
U. of I. student Jasper J.Q. Doney, 23, was arrested at 2:30 a.m. Monday at his residence in Scott Hall, 202 E. Peabody Drive, Champaign, for battery. Police initially were called by two students who said Doney had touched them without their permission.
Deshawn D. Armstrong, 23, of Champaign, was arrested at 3:15 p.m. Thursday at the Champaign County Jail, 502 S. Lierman Ave., Urbana, for battery. Police initially were called Sept. 23 to a convenience store in the 100 block of East Green Street, Champaign, by a store employee who reported that he was shoved to the ground and injured by a person attempting to steal alcohol. Armstrong was later identified as the alleged offender. An officer met with him Thursday at the jail, where he was in custody on an unrelated charge.
