A Champaign woman reported that at 5:06 p.m. Wednesday, someone withdrew $1,000 from her checking account at an ATM in the Illini Union. The victim informed her bank of the fraud and locked her account against further transactions.
A Champaign man reported being the victim of a sexual extortion scam late Wednesday night and early Thursday morning. The man said he sent lewd photos of himself to another person who threatened to send them to his social media followers and to the University of Illinois if he did not send money. The victim sent a total of $1,000 in response to the demands.
At 1:35 a.m. Thursday, a vehicle was stolen in the 600 block of S. Second Street, Champaign. The victim said he left his car running and unlocked while he picked up a food order, and when he came out of the restaurant, his car was gone. The car is valued at $4,000.
