Javarrias J. Miller, 23, of Carlinville, Illinois, was arrested at 10:47 a.m. Sunday at the Student Dining and Residential Programs Building, 301 E. Gregory Drive, Champaign, for trespassing on state-supported property, theft and burglary. Police initially were called by building staff who recognized Miller and were aware that he previously had been issued a no-trespassing notice for all U. of I. property. Police found him in possession of dining hall food for which he had not paid, credit cards in other people’s names and suspected stolen cash.
Laresha L. Reed, 42, no address provided, was arrested at 10:49 p.m. Saturday in the 400 block of East Healey Street, Champaign, for trespassing. Police initially were called by an apartment property manager who saw Reed in the building and was aware that she previously had been issued a no-trespassing notice by the property owner.
At 3:49 a.m. Saturday, someone broke into Campus Pantry, 112 E. Green St., Champaign, and stole seven bottles of liquor with a retail value of $290. An alarm alerted police to the burglary. When officers arrived, they found that the front door had been forced open, but the offender had left the area.
At 6:41 p.m. Saturday at her residence in the 200 block of East Armory Avenue, Champaign, U. of I. student Abigail E. Kauppila, 20, was issued a state of Illinois notice to appear in court for battery. On Friday, another U. of I. student reported that Kauppila had struck her in the head during a Feb. 3 party at Kauppila’s apartment.
A U. of I. student reported that his electric scooter had been stolen overnight Wednesday or Thursday outside Scott Hall, 202 E. Peabody Drive, Champaign. The scooter, which has an estimated value of $650, was locked to a rack.
U. of I. student Guanhua Di, 22, was arrested at 7:15 p.m. Friday at his residence in the 600 block of South Fourth Street, Champaign, for domestic battery. Police initially were called by Di, who told officers that he grasped another person by the wrists and dragged that person out of his apartment.
A U. of I student reported that a man pulled her off a platform and then punched her in the face around 11:36 p.m. Friday at The Red Lion, 211 E. Green St., Champaign. The man then ran from the area. The student was taken by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment of facial injuries.
A U. of I. student reported that someone entered his unlocked vehicle overnight Thursday or Friday while it was parked outside an apartment building in the 200 block of East Healey Street, Champaign. A wallet was stolen.
On Thursday, a U. of I. student reported that a package had been stolen Feb. 4-5 after it was delivered to the mail area of his apartment building in the 300 block of East Springfield Avenue, Champaign. The package has a retail value of $125.
Lorenzo M. Vasquez, 19, of Rantoul, Illinois, was arrested at 2:23 a.m. Friday near Fifth and Daniel streets, Champaign, for driving under the influence of alcohol. Vasquez’s vehicle initially was stopped because he disobeyed a red light.
Donavan R. Lee-Newman, 26, of Champaign, was arrested at 9:34 a.m. Friday at the Champaign County Jail, 502 S. Lierman Ave., Urbana, for criminal damage to state-supported property and disorderly conduct. Lee-Newman was identified as the person who threw rocks at a police vehicle, causing about $400 in damage, Wednesday at the U. of I. Public Safety Building, 1110 W. Springfield Ave., Urbana. Police visited Lee-Newman at the jail after he was arrested by the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office in a related incident.
