A U. of I. student reported that a lockbox containing cash had been stolen between Sunday and Tuesday from the bedroom of his apartment in the 900 block of South First Street, Champaign. The student was not present during the time it may have been taken. There was no evidence to suggest that someone had trespassed in the apartment, but several invited guests had been there.

A U. of I. student reported that he was the victim of a sexual extortion scam on Monday. An unknown person contacted the student through social media and encouraged him to send intimate photos of himself. The offender then threatened to send those photos to the student’s social media contacts unless he paid $2,000. The student did not pay and contacted police.

A U. of I. student reported that he was the victim of a sexual extortion scam on Monday. An unknown person contacted the student through a dating app and encouraged him to send intimate photos of himself. The offender then threatened to send those photos to the student’s social media contacts unless he paid $5,000. The student did not pay and contacted police.

It was reported that someone had made $500 in fraudulent charges on a U. of I. student’s credit card between Jan. 22 and Friday. The student was in possession of the card during the time the charges were made. 

A U. of I. student reported that his $1,600 coat had been stolen between 7:30-9:10 p.m. Tuesday at the Activities and Recreation Center, 201 E. Peabody Drive, Champaign. The coat was left in an unlocked locker. 

The construction manager for a site at 112 E. John St., Champaign, reported Monday that someone had burned two signs hanging on a fence over the weekend. The estimated value of the signs is $150. 

A hit-and-run accident was reported between 10:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Monday in U. of I. parking lot E-3, 608 W. Gregory Drive, Champaign. The owner discovered damage upon returning to his parked vehicle. The at-fault driver did not leave any information. The estimated repair cost is $500.

A U. of I. student reported that someone entered her vehicle and stole loose change and a $15 Bluetooth speaker between Saturday and Monday while the vehicle was parked outside her apartment building in the 300 block of East John Street, Champaign.
