U. of I. student Thomas E. Kempf, 22, of Champaign, was arrested at 1:09 a.m. Wednesday outside The Red Lion, 211 E. Green St., Champaign, for battery. Police were called by a security employee who reported that Kempf refused to leave the business after being instructed to do so and struck a security employee in the face. The employee was not seriously injured.
A U. of I. student reported Tuesday that someone had made approximately $15,000 in unauthorized charges to his bank account. The student was in possession of his debit card when the charges were made, and it is not known how someone accessed his account.
A U. of I. student reported that someone had stolen his tablet computer between 4:10-5:30 p.m. Monday at Grainger Engineering Library, 1301 W. Springfield Ave., Urbana. The computer was left unattended on a table while the student left the building to get dinner. GPS tracking information showed that it had been taken to an apartment building several blocks away.
A U. of I. employee at Grainger Engineering Library, 1301 W. Springfield Ave., Urbana, reported Tuesday that a former U. of I. student failed to return several electronic items that were checked out Nov. 11. The stolen items, including a projector and video camera, have a total estimated value of $2,235. The investigation is ongoing.
Rebecca J. Nash, 60, of Milford, Illinois, was arrested at 3:20 p.m. Tuesday at the Illinois Human Resources office at 901 W. University Ave., Urbana, for theft. On Jan. 11, a U. of I. employee reported that Nash, a former U. of I. employee, had made six personal purchases on her university-owned credit card between July and November. When questioned by university staff, Nash repaid two of the charges and had a third reversed, but the remaining unpaid charges total $10,446.
