URBANA, Ill. — The University of Illinois Police Department will be conducting training exercises at University of Illinois Laboratory High School (Uni High) during the week of July 25 and early in the week of Aug. 1.
Those in the area can expect to see a police presence and may observe police officers engaged in tactical operations immediately outside of the school. This is a drill only, and there is no expected threat at or near the school unless otherwise indicated by authorities.
The high school is located at 1212 W. Springfield Ave., Urbana, which is on the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign campus.
Most of the police training activity will occur inside the building. The exercise will allow University Police officers to hone their skills for responding to active shooter or active threat events anywhere.
Because of the tactical conversations that will occur as part of the training, media and public access will not be granted.
