URBANA – The University of Illinois Police Department is congratulating Jennifer Payan for receiving Clery Compliance Officer certification through the National Association of Clery Compliance Officers and Professionals (NACCOP).

Payan, an employee of the University of Illinois Police Department for nearly 25 years, is responsible for a wide array of the department’s and the university’s responsibilities under the federal Clery Act, Violence Against Women Act and Title IX.

Those requirements include notifying the campus community of significant crimes and crime statistics, as well as helping to establish and maintain crucial prevention and response programs targeting sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence and other crimes. She is also responsible for the university’s protection of minors procedures which ensure children visiting campus or participating in university programs are safe.

“Jennifer is tasked with a monumental effort to keep us in compliance with a variety of laws and acting in the best interest of our campus community,” said Deputy Chief Tony Brown. “These laws are evolving and changing every year, and Jennifer ensures the University of Illinois Police Department is up to date on best practices and doing everything we can to keep people safe.”

According to the NACCOP website, the Clery Compliance Officer Certification Program is for eligible employees of colleges and universities who want to benefit from NACCOP’s expertise in leading Clery compliance activities.

The certification program provides participants “with the opportunity to immerse themselves in a comprehensive professional development program that leads to a professional credential from the only association serving the needs of Clery compliance officers and professionals.”
