URBANA, Ill. – The University of Illinois Police Department will be conducting training over the next 10 days at Burnsides Research Laboratory, 1208 W. Pennsylvania Ave., Urbana.

We are announcing this training so that our campus community members are not alarmed by the heavy police presence. Most of the training will be small scale and occur after dark. The training events are not open to the public or the media.

The most visible portion of the training will take place between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 19. Officers from the University of Illinois Police Department and the METRO SWAT team will be present.

A number of law enforcement vehicles will be in the area. Signs will be posted around the building indicating that this is a training event only.

After law enforcement training is completed, local fire departments are scheduled to conduct training in the building. The training events precede the planned demolition of the building.
