URBANA, Illinois – A 22-year-old Urbana man was arrested Wednesday afternoon for firing a gun last week in Campustown.
No one was injured in the Oct. 9 shots fired incident in the 600 block of South Second Street, Champaign, but the incident prompted an Illini-Alert emergency notification that was sent to all students, faculty and staff.
University of Illinois Police identified the shooter as Dominic W. Parrish, 22, of Urbana. Investigators obtained a search warrant for his home and the vehicle he used the night of the shooting. He was arrested for reckless discharge of a firearm and for being a felon in possession of a firearm.
During an interview with police detectives, Parrish said he was involved in an altercation with the intended target prior to the shooting.
Police used a combination of security video and automated license plate readers to identify the vehicle involved in the shooting, which ultimately led them to Parrish.
Parrish was taken to the Champaign County Jail, where he remained as of Thursday morning.
Please note, those arrested are presumed innocent until proved guilty, and formal charges may change as cases are adjudicated.
