A U. of I. student received a call from someone purporting to be from Immigrations and Customs Enforcement stating that the student was required to pay an “immigration bond.” The caller directed the student through a series of steps, culminating with the student disclosing bank account information and purchasing $2,500 in gift cards to be transferred to the caller.
